Coastal Livelihood Training Empowers Mapuyo Fishermen

The Provincial Government of Biliran, under the leadership of Governor Rogelio J. Espina, successfully conducted a two-day Coastal Livelihood Training on September 4–5, 2025, for the Mapuyo Small Fishermen Association in Brgy. Mapuyo, Kawayan, Biliran.

The training, facilitated through the Office of the Provincial Agricultural Services (OPAS) – Fisheries Section, focused on the creation of fish pots (“BOBO”)—a sustainable fishing gear identified by the association as a valuable tool to strengthen their livelihood.

To ensure the program’s success and long-term impact, the PLGU provided all necessary materials and resources. This initiative highlights the provincial government’s continuing commitment to support local fishermen, promote sustainable fisheries, and uplift coastal communities.

Also present at the training WITH GOV. ROGER ESPINA, were Ms. Diana Marie Tayong, Municipal Agriculturist of Kawayan, AND Mr. Jay Fuentes, Senior Agriculturist representing OPAS, all showing their unwavering support to the community.

Through collaborative efforts, this program serves as another step toward empowering coastal families, enhancing food security, and fostering economic growth in Biliran Province.
