Greening Biliran: 100 Bayog Bamboo Seedlings Planted in Agpangi and Sabang

NAVAL, Biliran — Strengthening the province’s commitment to ecological resilience, the 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐯𝐢𝐧𝐜𝐢𝐚𝐥 𝐆𝐨𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐧𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐨𝐟 𝐁𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐫𝐚𝐧, 𝐥𝐞𝐝 𝐛𝐲 𝐆𝐨𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐧𝐨𝐫 𝐑𝐨𝐠𝐞𝐥𝐢𝐨 𝐉. Dacillo Jr. and a dedicated team, planted 100 Bayog bamboo seedlings along the area of Barangay Agpangi and Barangay Sabang river, Naval.

This continuing province-wide initiative supports the Bagong Pilipinas vision for sustainable development—protecting natural resources, enriching biodiversity, and building climate-ready communities.

More than a versatile resource, bamboo serves as a natural shield for communities. Through this program, Biliran strengthens its environmental defenses by:

Preventing soil erosion with its strong, binding root system

Reducing scouring beneath bridges and vital structures

Acting as a super carbon sink, absorbing CO₂ and producing clean oxygen

Slowing water flow to reduce flooding during heavy rains

Promoting community participation and shared responsibility for the environment

Governor Espina underscored the administration’s long-term vision for a greener future.

Today’s planting is about more than seedlings—it’s about securing the future. These bamboos will stand as guardians of our riverbanks and as foundations of our green economy. We will continue expanding this program across all major river systems in Biliran,” he said.

The activity was also joined by Job Order and Contract of Service personnel, affirming the call for whole-of-government and whole-of-community engagement in environmental action.

The Provincial Government envisions a sustained, province-wide greening movement—one that welcomes landowners, youth, civil servants, and environmental advocates to join future tree- and bamboo-planting activities.

Together, let us build a greener, safer, and more sustainable Biliran — one bamboo at a time.
