Biliran Honors OFWs as Modern-Day Heroes on National Migrant Workers’ Day 2026

NAVAL, Biliran — The Provincial Government of Biliran joined the nation in celebrating National Migrant Workers’ Day 2026, paying tribute to Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) for their invaluable contributions to their families, communities, and the country.

Held on June 5 at the Biliran Civic Center, the celebration gathered migrant workers and their families from Biliran and neighboring provinces, alongside representatives from government agencies, partner organizations, and local officials. Anchored on the theme “Bayan, Bayani, Bayanihan,” the event recognized OFWs as modern-day heroes whose sacrifices, resilience, and dedication continue to strengthen the nation.

In his inspirational message,𝙂𝙤𝙫𝙚𝙧𝙣𝙤𝙧 𝙍𝙤𝙜𝙚𝙡𝙞𝙤 𝙅. 𝙀𝙨𝙥𝙞𝙣𝙖 expressed profound gratitude to OFWs for their unwavering commitment to providing better opportunities for their loved ones. He emphasized that beyond their significant economic contributions through remittances, OFWs embody courage, perseverance, and hope for millions of Filipinos.

Governor Espina also highlighted the strong collaboration among government agencies, local government units, and stakeholders in delivering programs and services that support migrant workers and their families. He reaffirmed the province’s commitment to promoting the welfare of OFWs through accessible government services, livelihood opportunities, skills development initiatives, and employment-related programs.

“Your sacrifices strengthen not only your families but also our nation. You are the pride of Biliran and the Philippines,” Governor Espina said.

The event was attended by representatives from the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA), the Department of Migrant Workers (DMW), migrant organizations, and local government officials, all united in recognizing the vital role of OFWs in nation-building.

National Migrant Workers’ Day serves as a meaningful tribute to the country’s modern-day heroes and underscores the continuing support, solidarity, and gratitude extended to every Filipino worker abroad and their families.

To all OFWs: Your hard work, courage, and sacrifices inspire us to dream bigger, serve better, and build a stronger future together. Wherever you may be in the world, you remain the pride, strength, and hope of our nation.
