BILIRAN MOVES FORWARD: EMPOWERING BARANGAY NUTRITION SCHOLARS FOR THE FIRST 1,000 DAYS

BILIRAN MOVES FORWARD: EMPOWERING BARANGAY NUTRITION SCHOLARS FOR THE FIRST 1,000 DAYS

A healthier Biliran begins with healthy mothers, well-nourished children, and empowered communities.

The Provincial Government of Biliran continues to strengthen its commitment to protecting the health, nutrition, and future of every Biliranon by investing in the people who serve closest to the community—the Barangay Nutrition Scholars (BNSs).

Through a provincewide advocacy and capacity-building activity on Republic Act No. 11148, or the “Kalusugan at Nutrisyon ng Mag-Nanay Act,” a total of 98 BNSs from the Municipalities of Biliran, Cabucgayan, Culaba, and Kawayan are being equipped with knowledge and practical skills to strengthen services throughout the First 1,000 Days (F1KD+)—from conception until a child’s second birthday.

Strengthening Knowledge. Strengthening Service. Strengthening Lives.

The learning sessions focus on Maternal Nutrition, Infant and Young Child Feeding (MNIYCF) and the vital responsibilities of BNSs in bringing quality nutrition services closer to every family.

𝙈𝙧. 𝙍𝙞𝙤 𝙍. 𝙍𝙤𝙨𝙖𝙡𝙚𝙨, PNAO Designate, leads Session 1: Orientation on the First 1,000 Days, with Focus on MNIYCF, providing participants with a strong foundation on the F1KD+ approach and the importance of integrated nutrition interventions.

For Session 2: Maternal Health and Nutrition, and Session 3: Recommended IYCF Practices and Complementary Feeding for Infants and Young Children,𝙈𝙨. 𝙏𝙧𝙞𝙨𝙝𝙖 𝙈𝙖𝙮 𝙈𝙖𝙗𝙞𝙡𝙖𝙣𝙜𝙖𝙣,

DOH-NDPP, shares essential knowledge and practices that help safeguard the health and nutritional well-being of mothers, infants, and young children.

Also lending her expertise in Session 3, particularly on Recommended IYCF Practices, Breastfeeding, and Counseling on Maternal, Infant and Young Child Nutrition, is 𝙈𝙨. 𝙐𝙡𝙡𝙖𝙨𝙞𝙣𝙞 𝙋. 𝘼𝙡𝙛𝙚𝙧𝙚𝙯,Nutrition Program Development Consultant, who guides participants in strengthening their ability to provide practical, effective, and family-centered nutrition counseling.

More than a training, this initiative is an investment in stronger frontline service delivery.

The BNSs are being further equipped to identify and support pregnant women and young children, conduct home visits, promote breastfeeding and appropriate complementary feeding, monitor nutritional status, strengthen community mother support groups, and help families make informed decisions for better health and nutrition.

The activity also provides a platform for BNSs to bring forward real challenges from their barangays, identify workable solutions, and translate learning into concrete action.

Because the work does not end in the training room.

It continues in every home visited.

In every mother counseled.

In every child nourished.

And in every barangay strengthened.

The first 1,000 days are a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to lay the foundation for a child’s growth, development, and lifelong health. With capable and committed frontline workers, Biliran is bringing this mission closer to every family.

Empower the frontline. Strengthen the family. Nourish the child. Build a stronger Biliran.

One mother supported. One child nourished. One family empowered. One stronger Biliran.

Serbisyong Biliranon — Abtik, Mapursigido, ug Padayon sa pag-alagad para sa matag Biliranon.
