Reviving the Christmas Choral tradition in the 80’s, Gov. Gerard Espina has directed the provincewide contest for the LGU-based Karoling sa Kapitolyo 2022.
Organized by the provincial government and overseen by Dr. Ryan Teofel Arpon, the contest was participated in by the LGUs of Almeria, Biliran, Cabucgayan and Naval. Other LGUs declined to join for not being able to organize a choir in due time. The Board of Judges was composed of Dr. Biato Ambe, Jr.; Mr. Roland Calleja and Dr. Nova Pla.
Each choral group was required to render 2 songs: a warm-up Disney song of their choice and the contest piece Kampana ng Simbahan. Equal bearing of scores are given to both songs as rendered.
The winners were: 1st Place, with P50,000.00 prize – LGU Naval; 2nd Place, with P30,000.00 prize – Cabucgayan and the 3rd Place, with P20,000.00 prize – Almeria.
The Governor is bent on institutionalizing the event as part of its drive to promote local talents and artistry and preserve local cultural traditions.
