The major structure of the cathedral was built and dedicated in 1966 as church for the Our Lady of the Most Holy Rosary Parish, partly funded from American donations. When the Diocese of Naval was created in 1988, the church became the Cathedral of Our Lady of the Most Holy Rosary, being the seat of the diocesan curia. Later additions include the Bishop’s Residence and other support buildings.
